CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE BASRA, Iraq – The Contingency Operating Base Basra Post Office has made some recent improvements. You can now use your Eagle Cash Card when you send a package.
“We got the Eagle Cash Card about a week and a half ago,” said Antonio Miller, COB Basra Post Office Supervisor. “We are working on getting a kiosk for additional convenience. This has been a big winner with the Soldiers.”
Services include standard and priority shipping, free mail service on standard envelopes back to the United States, international mail, insured and certified mail and all other standard mail services.
Packages will be inspected and all civilians are required to show two forms of Identification. Military personnel are required to show their Common Access Card (CAC) when sending packages or using custom mail services.
To mail a package, customers must fill out a customs form listing all contents and an address label. Optional forms include insurance, certified mail, return receipt and registered mail. Customers are asked to fill out the forms in advance to speed up the process.
Kellogg, Brown and Root assumed responsibility for the postal services here in June and want to make Soldiers’ and civilians’ experiences better. “We want to see people happier than before they came in,” said Miller.
The Post Office will continue to accept cash in addition to the Eagle Cash Card. However, there has been no news about converting to Dinar in the near future, according to Miller.
Operations begin at 8:00 a.m., and they are open until 5:00 p.m. daily, including Sunday.
